"The transition will be seamless."
"We will have over 95,000 passengers in 2005."
"We have spent over $50,000.00 in advertising."
These are just a few of the lies spouted from the almighty CHS during this time of socialist take-over of a sucessfully family run operation.
Reality check:
The CHS has chosen an out of state operator who is not familiar with 3 foot narrow guage steam equipment OR track. They chose an operator who was just recently thrown off the Belfast & Moosehead operation in Maine, due to "bounced checks and their inability to return calls."
This operator is a "pass through pansy" agent for the CHS to hire several other companies to handle things like marketing (Kathy Denzel is about as encouraging, energetic and enlightened as a sour potato), a gift shop merchandising company (whose rep apparently has told people that she hates coming to Georgetown) and a programmer for a new reservation system, which is not yet operating. Amazing that it takes all these companies to attempt to replace the performance of the previous operators -and to still fail so miserably. The CHS has spent less than $7000.00 in actual advertising this year. The previous operators had spent over $80,000.00 in advertising by this time last year. It was only after a letter of intent to sue was presented that the CHS released those line item expenditures in a reasonable manner. Prior to that, the assistant attorney general had publicly proclaimed his opposition to our retrieval of those expenditures.
Why is the CHS trying to hide what they are doing and what they have spent? Why do they yell at concerned citizens when these and other questions are asked and cry "Unfair!". They are acting like a bunch of children who just can't seem to get away with smokescreening their way through the situation. It must be soooo frustrating for them.
So, it's no surprise that the CHS had to call the dignitary/press run off. It will be no surprise to us when they postpone opening day or when the passenger numbers for the year consist of a small percentage of the 132,000 passengers carried last year.
And to think that it is one of our own town Board of Selectmen, Lee Behrens, who initiated this disaster in his position as the Director of the Loop Park for the Colorado Historical Society. How much longer will the CHS Board of Directors continue to let those responsible for this travesty to history continue in their capacities?
