GEORGETOWN RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES, VISITORS AND LOCAL MEDIA:
GEORGETOWN WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM UPSET ON FEBRUARY 25, 2005 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30 P.M.

The Town of Georgetown experienced a brief upset at the water treatment plant today, Friday, February 25th at approximately 1:30 p.m. for a duration of approximately 5 minutes due to a plant procedure failure. Untreated raw water may have gotten into the water system although chlorine tests in the afternoon and evening around town have not indicated any problem so far.

The Colorado Department of Health and Public Environment was notified at 2:20 p.m. and we have been following their instructions since that time. Containment and remediation efforts began within 5 minutes after the plant upset occurred as our superintendent was on site at the time. We will flush the main lines tonight and monitor the water quality to be sure the water remains safe.

If you notice any dirty water in your system, please call John Curtis, Water Plant Superintendent immediately at 720-341-0305 and we can come and flush out the water lines in your area. Boiling of water is not required at this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this upset of service may cause. If you have any questions or complications, please call John Curtis at the number above or me at 303-569-2555 extension 3 during working hours or at home, 303-569-2468. Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Chuck Stearns
Town Administrator
