The IGA can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
This item was taken off the agenda. We think it has something to do with the perception that some got from Mayor Bennhoff that this IGA was being promoted by county commissioner, Jo Ann Sorenson. A citizen made a quick call to Joanne Sorenson & confirmed to us what was suspected - that Sorenson had made no plans to attend the meeting to propose this IGA and further, Sorenson said that it was the Colorado Historical Society that had asked about the IGA's progression at the last Loop Communications meeting. Why would the CHS want this IGA if they had solid RFPs submitted? Why would Mayor Bennhoff tell folks that Joanne Sorenson was going to propose this to the board when that was apparently not her intention at all? Was he taking liberties with her good name and position to sell the idea to others?
This next part was written before they took the item off the agenda:
At a time when our town officials should be getting down on their knees and begging the current operators and CHS to work something out -this is what they come up with. This IGA could only ever have teeth if the towns actually had money to operate the Loop park (2 million to get started -and that's not including rolling stock or locomotives). Our towns have no money and Georgetown, in particular, has no ability to raise our taxes to come up with the money (gotta love that territorial charter) that will be needed to participate in the operation of the Loop. The idea that this IGA may be formed to facilitate grant funding for any new operator coming in is laughable. Georgetown doesn't have the peachiest reputation with grant money and will be facing a deficeit (misspelled on purpose) once the feds decide that we owe them money that was frauded from them during the 2003 Snowgate incident.
