Yes, it's true that KAM Services provides this service at no cost to the community, but for those of you who want to do more to help or to help ensure that we continue to offer this service, we invite you to donate to our cause (uh, what's our cause you ask? - To educate and inform citizens of our local politics and related happenings).
Why does Georgetownpolitics.com exist?
Because despite the many offers of volunteer help over the past 3 years (ever since the town's web site was created) the town has chosen not to update their site. The town still has ordinances from 2 years ago under their "What's New" page! The town spent our tax payer dollars to create their site (it was way over-priced in our opinion) and didn't follow through with it's plan to keep Georgetown citizens informed by updating it - even though just about every elected candidate promised to do so. The town chose not to let us help update the site and that is why this one exists.
Because the town decided that citizens can't add subjects to the agenda - remember the good ole days, when all we had to do was get 10 people to endorse an agenda item? This was changed when Malcolm Schaefer wanted to discuss Snowgate (blizzard 2003 Federal investigation).
Because the town just increased their copy fees. -a non-issue if the town provided updated documents on their site
Because the BOS stifles opposing opinions and chooses to deny logic and reasoning. (see Carla Chiles emails)
Because the BOS involves many conflicts that they don't disclose -but that we do
Because for years and years and years (gee, dare we say historically?) this town has operated for the benefit of the few and the detriment of our town (what kind of fool gets a million dollar grant and then HANDS IT OVER TO HGI WITHOUT INSISTING ON PART OWNERSHIP - AND THEN GIVES THEM A MAINTENANCE CONTRACT AND MORE MONEY TO RUN IT?!) This is just one of several instances where our town made HORRIBLE business decisions to benefit HGI - just ask downtown businesses what they feel about the town giving HGI their own little store at the prime location in town without protecting their interests - which in the very least should've included NOT SELLING THE SAME THINGS AT THE VISITOR CENTER (HGI STORE) THAT BUSINESSES ALREADY SELL DOWNTOWN. Guess who plans to sell Christmas items at their alleged Visitor Center?
But mostly, this site exists
Because we live in America.
